Stay in One Place

Nature only seems boring until you've sat long enough, and still enough, to hear the story of a day.

A frosted meadow below dark spruce at dawn, with the moon high and a snowy peak in the distance

When we go out into Nature, from our world it can seem boring. But that’s only because you haven’t sat long enough yet. Or still enough.

To take in the story of a day, you must sit there all day. We want YouTube shorts when we go out into the wilderness, but really we need our grandfather to tell us a story.

To feel so small, but equally a part of it all is key to witnessing the magic of Nature. If you walk too fast, you’ll miss the frog that eventually emerges from her green, mossy, mature pond side dwelling. Moments so small as these have the power to transform our lives, because wonder and awe is one of the strongest emotions we can experience. Touching Spirit might take 3 days of sitting in the same meadow, but finally one day, you'll witness something in the dance of two crows playing a game of chase me play with me dance with me. The sound their wings cuts like jagged edges in the crystal blue stillness of the sky, their wings suddenly synchronize as one, beating as one noise and they chase and dive and make little barks of joy. Only if we're there to see them.

Place yourself high up on a mountain, somewhere maybe between tree line, and in the sage brush lands, and stay in a meadow where it’s lush. Go when it’s supposed to rain, and snow, and use your ingenuity to stay warm and happy and smiling through it all. Stay in one place. Go back again the next day, or better yet sleep in a place not many people have been. There is magic and spirit everywhere in places like these. They do not need a name, or to be known as a ‘five star hike’, there is beauty everywhere. But just stay in one place. And listen to your grandmother tell you a story.
